Mindful Technologies: Research and Developments in Science and Art
This symposium paper was presented in 2016 at the AAAI Spring Symposium Series, held at Stanford University, within the symposium Well-Being Computing: AI Meets Health and Happiness Science. It documents the biofeedback virtual-reality research developed as mYndful inside the Metaverses collaboration at the University of Oregon, together with the art–science methodology behind it.
The paper describes how live physiological signals — breathing and cardiac rhythm — can be used to drive immersive environments, and how contemplative practice, neuroscience collaboration and artistic production can be organised as a single research programme rather than as separate activities. The work received a Best Presentation Award at the symposium.
Note on venue: the AAAI Spring Symposium Series is a separate track from the main AAAI annual conference. The paper is archived in the AAAI digital library and indexed in DBLP.
